CIVIC RECEPTION CELEBRATING ASSOCIATIONS 30th ANNIVERSARY

The Mayor of Auckland, Mr Dick Hubbard, ONZM, JP hosted a Civic Reception at the Auckland Mayoral Chambers to launch the Association's 30th anniversary year.

Mr Hubbard hosted a hundred and fifty guests who enjoyed the City's hospitality. The Mayor paid tribute to the Fiji Association. Mr Hubbard said "Thirty years of sustained dedicated service to Auckland by the Fiji Association is warmly recognized and much appreciated."

The Mayor announced five Distinguished Citizen and Appreciation Awards to past chairpersons of the Association, and presented these to the following - Mr Pravindra Singh, Mrs Veena Maharaj, Mr Arthur Solomon, JP, Mr Arvind Rai and Dr Satendra Singh, ONZM, QSM, JP.

The Association Chairman addressed the gathering and spoke of the close links the Association has developed with Auckland Mayors over the past three decades going back to Sir Dove Meyer Robinson. Dr Satendra Singh said "The Association regards this connection as a great strength and continues to support the City in whatever ways it can."

The Association presented a Fijian basket and a silver peacock ornament for the Mayoral Office on the occasion of the 30th anniversary even opening.
